WHAT IS INTERSECTION AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING?

Available Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking can help you avoid or reduce the severity of an intersection collision with a detected cross-traffic vehicle. It provides alerts and can even automatically provide hard emergency braking or enhance the driver’s hard braking.

WHAT IS INTERSECTION AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING?

  • When your vehicle is in a FORWARD gear, Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking uses a camera to look ahead of your vehicle and monitor cross traffic vehicles.
  • When you’re approaching a detected vehicle approaching from the right or left side too quickly and may be just seconds away from a potential collision, the system is designed to provide a flashing red windshield “Collision Alert” along with eight high-pitched front left or front right beeps.
    • If your vehicle is equipped with a Safety Alert Seat, you can choose to receive Safety Alert Seat pulses on the left or right side of the seat or high-pitched beeps, but not both.
  • If you don’t respond fast enough to a cross-traffic vehicle or if the situation happens suddenly, Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking may automatically apply hard emergency braking or enhance your hard braking.
  • You can override the system at any time by pressing the accelerator or by braking.
  • If the system slows your vehicle to a complete stop, you can release the brakes with the Electric Parking Brake switch (if your vehicle is equipped with the Electric Parking Brake) or by firmly pressing the accelerator pedal when it’s safe to do so.
  • This feature can be turned on and off through the vehicle’s Settings menu.

Weather Conditions Can Affect Performance

  • Conditions that are associated with low visibility, such as fog, rain, snow or road spray, may limit the performance of the system
  • If the windshield behind the rearview mirror is obstructed in any way or not properly cleaned, the system might not perform as expected.
  • Even with Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking, remain attentive of cross traffic. No safety system can take the place of an alert and engaged driver.

Safety or driver assistance features are no substitute for the driver’s responsibility to operate the vehicle in a safe manner. The driver should remain attentive to traffic, surroundings and road conditions at all times. Visibility, weather, and road conditions may affect feature performance. Read the vehicle’s Owner’s Manual for more important feature limitations and information.

Q&As

Will Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking warn me of stationary objects, bicyclists or pedestrians ahead of my vehicle?

No. Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking is not designed to detect stationary objects, bicyclists or pedestrians. You should always pay attention to the road in front of you as you approach an intersection or perform a turn. A separate available feature, Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking, is designed to detect pedestrians and bicyclists.

What can affect the ability of Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking to perform as expected?

If the camera (located behind the rearview mirror) is obstructed in any way or not properly cleaned, the system might not perform as expected, for example, if the windshield is covered with frost or snow. Keep the windshield in front of the camera clean for best feature performance. Check your Owner’s Manual for instructions on cleaning the camera and sensors.

Under bad weather or poor visibility conditions, the system might not function as intended.

Can Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking detect motorcycles?

The system is designed to detect licensable powered vehicles, including motorcycles.
